The twitter of bird song could be heard at they began to awaken, singing in the new day as the pink, orange and purple hues of a sunrise was seen beginning to brighten the day. A soft breeze ruffled feathers, fur, hair and leaves alike, the sun warming the cool morning. It was certain to be a beautiful day, with nothing to ruin it asides from a sour mood.
A figure stood outside a curious looking shop, their head cocked slightly to one side as if debating to enter it or not. After a few moments they turned the knob and entered silently like a wraith, but not unseen by the mythical creatures inside.
Dressed in a soft blue kimono that smelt faintly of earth, Elliot’s eyes caught Daichi’s eyes and held them for a second before the Cait Sith blinked as if caught off guard.
“Ah, welcome to the Pet shop!” The Qulin exclaimed, pleased as seeing a new customer enter their shop. “Are you looking for anything specific today? We have many mounts suitable for a Cait Sith your size. As well..”
All of Daichi’s words became a faint murmur as something caught the Cait Sith’s attention, his green eyes becoming alert as those fuzzy ears cocked, catching a faint noise. It sounded familiar, almost like a ticking clock, but the sounds were soft. It almost sounded like a faint scraping noise on wood and as Elliot peered about the shop, he took note of what was making the noise and slid closer.
It was an egg unlike he had ever seen before. Being from a small town they had only gotten eggs from chickens, small white or brown objects that oozed white and yellow when cracked or accidentally dropped as well as squeezed too tightly. This mess of colours was strange to look at, but tasted delicious cooked on an open fire in a pan.
The egg in question was pink and cream coloured, with touches of red here and there. As the cat looked on the egg continued to rock back and forth as if to its own rhythm, but to Elliot it sounded like the ticking of a clock.
How curious, to someone who had a time limit on the task that was given to him.
Swiftly his paw reached out and gently tapped the rocking egg, as if amused by its rhythmic motions. Jabbing as it a few more times, ignoring the somewhat panicked noises that Daichi was making behind him, Elliot’s tail flicked in an interested pattern. He had never been into this shop at all, being new and unsure of what shops he could wander into. Granted it seemed an interesting place, but there wasn’t anything of use to him here..
Or was there?
“How much is this egg?” the Cait Sith inquired to the large mount seller, one sharp claw flicking out tap one more time against the still rocking egg. Those dark green eyes followed every movement of the rhythmic motion and what sounded a rough purr emitted from Elliot’s throat as he found himself mildly amused by the strange motions. Eggs didn’t rock. They weren’t supposed to move at all.
“I told you before, they’re free.” The exasperated Qulin sighed and fidgited behind the somewhat calm cat; hadn’t this person been listening at all while he had been talking? “We’ve gotten too many as it is.”
“Perfect.” Elliot replied as he scooped the egg up in one of his paws, making a small noise of distress as he realized how heavy the egg was. Looks were deceiving but he didn’t think that such a small egg could be so..cumbersome. “I’ll take this one then.”
Daichi stared at the Cait Sith for a few moments before nodding and handing him not only a small whistle that gave Elliot the feel of handling a particularly soft plant but also a slip of paper that seemed to be a coupon or voucher of some sort. Thanking him for his services, the Qulin ushered the kimono wearing cat outside before closing the door, leaving the cat simply standing there but still clutching the egg.
“Well,” he seemed to murmur to himself after a few moments, his sharp eyes sliding down towards one of the pockets on his kimono. “It seems I can’t eat this, so I guess we have something interesting to look forwards to in the next little while.”
The pocket gave off a faint green glow and Elliot rumbled deep in his throat, hefting the twitching egg so he could carry it easier before setting out for home, somewhat curious about what would hatch from such an active egg. As the first rays of sunlight began to shine over the horizon, the Cait Sith nestled the egg in a secure place where it continued to rock before settling down on his bed, watching it go back and forth in perfect motion.
“I guess in time, all will be revealed..”
